The Bishop of Gikongoro Diocese, Mgr Célestin HAKIZIMANA headed a great event where CRS Rwanda, in collaboration with Caritas Gikongoro organized an agriculture pilot project closeout event which took place on May 14, 2021 at Centre Pastoral Saint-Pierre. This project, Duhinga Neza-PASP project, implemented by Caritas Gikongoro, tested the Private Agricultural Service Provider (PASP) model. PASPs are independent fee-for-service agents who serve an intermediary role for agrodealers and community members to facilitate farmer’s access to agricultural inputs and advisory services. To date, CRS has trained 30 PASP agents across three districts (Ngoma, Nyamagabe, Huye) and has been monitoring their performance to validate the technical model.
At this event, we celebrated PASPs’ achievements during 3 years of project implementation and certified PASPs as independent fee-for-services agents who serve last mile farmers to access agricultural inputs and advisory services. As this project implemented in Mbazi, Cyanika, Gasaka and Kibilizi sectors, the Executive Secretaries from the above-mentioned sectors participated in this event. There were also the Director of Caritas Gikongoro, Father Joseph NAYIGIZIKI, the Representative of CRS Rwanda Mr. Jackson KAYINAMURA and the Representative of Nyamagabe District (Director of Agriculture Unit).
